Transforming Students Into Engaged Citizens
In 1997, senators and House representatives participated in a retreat in Hershey, Pennsylvania to attempt to restore civil discourse in Congress. Tatge/Lasseur produced this video which was shown at the opening of the event. Then Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich distributed one copy to each member of Congress the following week. Unfortunately it does not seem like the Retreat had much effect...

Occupy Wall Street Thread: Simulation
On November 16th, I started a thread in the Brony forum canterlot.net. Despite the audience I was addressing, they had some interesting insights and opinions. This is the thread as of 9:00 AM on November 23rd.…Continue

I am concerned about how little time we have to prepare for a shoot in Wall Street in early December. A lot of research has to be done and at this time I only see one (great) post by Dan Pozdnyakov.
We also need to schedule a meeting before we can go shoot so we can work on questions, camera etc... and I don't see an opening other than perhaps on the week-end…Continue

Met yesterday with Gilbert School students. Teddy, Dylan, Devon, Alex, Katie, Courtney, Allison, Kara, Jona and Bryana. Hope I got all spellings right. Please sign up for the site if you haven't yet. Discussed the possibility of doing a film on budget issues in Winsted and Cyber bullying. Then in the last few minutes the group voted unanimously to do a story on Zanna, Don't, a play that sparked a huge controversy when it was performed at a Hartford High School. Looking forward…Continue

Paul Talbot is a 29 year old Torrington resident who is part of the Occupy protests in Hartford CT. His motivation for being in the movement is that he is upset by unemployment and rising tuition for colleges. Last month, on the 27th he was involved in a group protest of many students/ graduates outside of the state capitol. He began shouting at Gov. Dannel P. Malloy durring a taped interview and was forced out of the building promtly. He is also part of the company NEREphotography and his…Continue

As stated by Occupy Wall Street:
“The beauty of this new formula, and what makes this novel tactic exciting, is its pragmatic simplicity: we talk to each other in various physical gatherings and virtual people’s assemblies … we zero in on what our one demand will be, a demand that awakens the imagination and, if achieved, would propel us toward the radical democracy of the future … and then we go out and seize a square of singular symbolic significance and put our asses on…Continue

From a friend who is connected with Wall Street protesters:
This is an assemblage of 3 communications from Occupy Wall Street to give you an idea of what’s happening there:
Are you ready to Occupy the Courts? To support an amendment against corporate personhood started by Move to Amend, "Inspired by our friends at Occupy Wall St".

Check out some of the videos in the Videos section. I was watching again Bob Elfstrom (Director of Photography) talking about the use of zoom. Poorly shot (my fault!) but really interesting.

Had a very good meeting with East Haven High School students this past Monday. Very interesting discussion about possible topics. They have decided to make a film on the death penalty in the aftermath of the Cheshire home invasion.

Wonderful meeting with Common Ground students today. They're exploring two topics: Funding cuts for the arts in school and effect of violence in the media (including video games) on young people.

Students gave positive feedback about the October 13th meeting. They gained a good understanding of what the process of creating a documentary is about. They mention the appeal of dealing with "real" people. They understood the concept of approaching an idea or a topic with a preconceived idea and the idea that we would be looking to be surprised.
We talked about the following possible topics:
Occupy Wall Street
Uneven enforcement of rules for young people…Continue

Great meeting with 9 students. We talked mostly about the Wall Street Occupation.
Jeremy Downs will do research about First Amendment as it relates to the Wall Street Story.
Devan Casey will research arguments (and people) pro and con.
Do research on Occupy Wall Street website: http://occupywallst.org/
Some of the questions we might ask the occupiers:
Why are you here?
